A MAN is reportedly locked up tonight after a dramatic afternoon in Charleville’s Cypress Street.
According to eyewitness accounts, around 1pm, a “shirtless” man was seen carrying a sharp stick, which resembled a potential weapon.
“It was a like a spear,” one resident, who did not wish to be identified, told 4RR-FM as police searched the neighbourhood for the alleged offender.
It’s understood the man was in pursuit of another male, who was looking after a baby, prompting an immediate response from the cops.
At least four police cars, one of them an unmarked vehicle, rushed to the scene where residents remained on edge.
One police car entered nearby scrubland as plain clothes officers went door-to-door, seeking information.
It’s understood a man is now in custody and assisting police with their enquiries.
