MURWEH Mayor ‘Zoro’ Radnedge has returned to Charleville after another talkfest – this time involving the Premier and several of his Ministers.
Cr Radnedge, joined by his chief executive officer Bruce Scott, travelled to Goondiwindi on Sunday for meetings with David Crisafulli and a fair chunk of his Ministerial colleagues at ‘Community Cabinet’, where they discussed a range of issues including the push for better aviation connectivity for Charleville.
Meetings also encompassed red tape, health infrastructure, education, biosecurity, pest and weed management, tourism and even multiculturalism.
Cr Radnedge outlined how excessive regulatory burdens are impacting on Murweh Shire Council operations, community groups, and local project delivery.
He emphasised the need for streamlined processes to support regional productivity and volunteer organisations. Discussions also focused on the critical importance of modernising Charleville Hospital to meet current and future demand, ensuring residents have better access to high-quality healthcare.
“Community Cabinet provides a vital platform for rural and remote councils to speak directly with decision-makers,” Cr Radnedge said. “Murweh Shire is proud, resilient, and forward-looking and these meetings ensure our needs and opportunities are clearly understood at the highest levels of Government.”
He also highlighted the need for increased seat availability on regulated air routes to improve connectivity, support tourism, and strengthen business and medical travel options. Conversations also centred on regional education pathways for local students and workforce development.
Cr Radnedge reinforced Murweh’s ongoing challenges in relation to invasive weeds and pests, calling for coordinated responses and funding certainty and showcased Murweh’s growing tourism sector and the positive role multiculturalism plays in strengthening community identity and economic activity.
The talkfest in the border town followed last week’s Western Queensland Alliance of Councils Assembly in Brisbane.
