CHARLEVILLE trainer Les Baker has enjoyed a ‘Super Saturday’ after winning two cups in two States.
At Morven, in the final event on a bumper seven-race card, the wily Baker watched stable star Deciduous take out the Curley Cattle Transport Charlie Galagher Memorial Morven Cup (1400m), defeating Cunnamulla-trained Al Ash Lad (second) and Blackall galloper Moorabinda Mick (third).
Today’s win by Deciduous came three weeks after success in the Betoota Cup on the opening day of the Simpson Desert Racing Carnival.
Across the border, the Charleville trainer, albeit absent, combined with jockey Wendy Peel to win the feature race at tiny Enngonia in north-western NSW.
In the Dunk Insurance Enngonia Cup (1400m), Turnstar proved too strong for fellow Charleville galloper Roll Up, trained by William Pugsley, with Malarina, trained by Monique Gavin at Cunnamulla, finishing third.
In race three, the Nutrien Walsh Hughes Handicap (1200m), the Charleville-trainer Dreyfus, ridden by Jake Pracey-Holmes, prevailed.
The winner was prepared by veteran horseman Garry Bignell, who’s no stranger to these parts, having originally come from NSW.
