CURRENT and former police officers in Western Queensland have been joined by members of the public in commemorating National Police Remembrance Day.
Every year on September 29, the day is observed across Australia, as well as parts of the South Pacific including New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, remembering those officers who died in the line of duty.
In the South-West, services were held in Charleville and Cunnamulla, as reported on-air yesterday in 4RR-FM’s News for Western Queensland.
Services were also held in Roma, Longreach, Cloncurry and Mount Isa with the rodeo capital also having a candlelit vigil the night before, overlooking the city at dusk.
The scheduling of National Police Remembrance Day is so because September 29 is the feast day of St Michael the Archangel, the patron saint of policing.
