THE future of the Maranoa-based LifeFlight has becoming increasingly uncertain as it faces the prospect of shutting down.
Chair Kate Scott has told the ABC there’s no guarantee that the aeromedical service out of Roma will survive beyond the current funding arrangements, which expire in April next year.
It’s understood some companies in the resources sector have said they’ll consider pumping more cash into the service but that’s on the proviso that the State Government also does more.
Ms Scott says the service “would probably fold” if no one steps up.
The Maranoa’s LifeFlight operation serves a big chunk of country, larger than Victoria, encompassing South West Queensland and beyond.
LifeFlight is highly regarded by the wider community with the people of Morven showing their support this year when the town’s winter ball raised $40,000 for the charity.
The contribution was officially announced in September at LifeFlight’s glittering ‘Canapés in the Cockpit’ event at Roma.
The base there began operations in 2011 through a partnership with the Surat Gas Aeromedical Service.
In 2023, operations relocated to a new, purpose-built facility, officially named the Lee Family and Australian Country Choice LifeFlight Centre, at Roma Airport.
