THE Mayor of the Murweh Shire Council has promised the return of South-West Queensland’s famous Westlander passenger train.
Serving communities between Brisbane and Charleville, the iconic train has been out of action since an accident last month at a level crossing on the Darling Downs near Jondaryan.
However, after discussions with Queensland’s Transport Minister, Brent Micklelberg, in Longreach this week, Cr Shaun ‘Zoro’ Radnedge says the Westlander is anything but a spent force.
“The train is coming back,” says the Mayor, speaking to Costo in 4RR-FM’s drive show this afternoon whilst also canvassing other issues such as the cost of insurance.
The iconic Westlander entered service in the early 1950s and also served towns such as Quilpie and Cunnamulla until the 1990s.
