BARCOO Shire Council has done almost the unthinkable – kept an increase to rates below the level of inflation.
Talking up its 2026-2027 Budget, Council says it worked hard to balance the rising cost of service delivery with increasing financial challenges for locals.
“Council understands that families, businesses and primary producers are continuing to face cost-of-living pressures,” says Barcoo Mayor Sally O’Neil.
“That is why Councillors made a conscious decision to limit the general rate increase to 3 per cent, which is below the current rate of inflation.”
Barcoo has also put a freeze on all Council fees and charges as the Mayor sells the budget to ratepayers and key stakeholders.
