CHARLEVILLE product Kurt Capewell has extended his contract with the Warriors until the end of the 2027 NRL season.
Capewell, 32, who was part of Penrith’s premiership-winning side in 2021, has just come off his sixth consecutive State of Origin campaign.
His contract extension has been welcomed by the Warriors, who remain a serious title contender, despite an 18-6 loss to the Bulldogs at the weekend.
“Kurt has been tremendous for our club in every respect over the last three years,” praised Warriors recruitment boss Andrew McFadden.
“He brings so much with his experience, leadership and passion as well as being a terrific mentor for our young forwards coming through the system.”
The 12-month extension also opens the door for Capewell to chase tax-free dollars with NRL expansion side, the PNG Chiefs, from 2028.
Another option could be to finish his career in Europe amid ongoing speculation of the NRL investing in Super League.
Meanwhile, former Newcastle star David Armstrong continues to help propel Leigh Leopards towards the Super League finals.
The ‘Mungindi Grasshopper’ scored the opening try in Leigh’s 28-12 home win over Sam Burgess-coached Warrington at the weekend.
Adrian Lam’s Leopards are currently sitting fifth, with the top six sides advancing to the play-offs.
