TAMBO rider Tammy Johnson, formerly of Charleville, has made a long-awaited return to the South-West, finishing runner-up at the Cooladdi Gymkhana.
Johnson hadn’t saddled up locally for two decades but on Saturday, kept Cunnamulla’s Corissa Jackson on her toes. Aside from winning the ladies event, Jackson also took out the Mascot Earthmoving Horse Double Barrel Showdown. In the men’s, Ethan Jones beat fellow Charleville rider Robert King.
On the bikes, in the ladies, Charleville’s Casey Liston reigned supreme, knocking off Morven’s Tamara Jenyns whilst in the open event, honours went to Blake Thompson at the expense of fellow Charleville rider Lachlan West.
Morven’s Beau Gallegos took out the Harlow’s Heavy Diesel Go Slow Race, winning from Andrew Challacombe (second) from Cunnamulla and Charleville’s Don Springall (third).
In the Schmidt Plant Hire Open and Ladies Double Barrel, West beat Quilpie’s Dan Springall, with Morven’s Harvey Harlow coming third.
Dan Springall also took out the Grant Sullivan Livestock Transport Bike Double Barrell Showdown, plus the Tas Mini Motors Horse v Bike Double Barrel Showdown. In the latter event, Jackson, saddling up again, finished second, unable to match the speed of Springall on his bike in the Cooladdi dust.
In the GDL Motorbike Stampede, Charleville’s Beau Flanagan secured bragging rights from Liston, with Harlow having to settle for third place.
