A GRAZING property near Cooladdi, once home to the family of former Labor Member for Warrego Jack Aitken, has failed to sell at auction.
Yarronvale, about 120 kilometres west of Charleville, encompassing more than 32,000 hectares and boasting 13 kilometres of Paroo River frontage, aroused interest from potential buyers today at the Charleville RSL but was passed in, according to selling agent Jason Hartin from Hartin Schute Bell.
Mr Hartin, whose firm is based at Narromine in the NSW Central West, remains confident a deal can be sorted by close of business on Friday (September 11).
“We’ve now got an offer on the property until Friday at $8 million. It’s ready to go for its new owners,” he told 4RR-FM after a LIVE on-air interview.
Mr Aitken, who died in 2016, won Warrego at the 1969 State Election. He held the seat for Labor until the Country Party’s Neil Turner defeated him in 1974.
Prior to his family’s ownership of Yarronvale, Mr Aitken owned a newsagency in Charleville in the 1940s and 1950s. He later owned a shop at Cooladdi.
Yarronvale’s current owners are Ray and Betty Taylor, who also have sheep and cattle properties in Central Queensland.
