A CATTLE station once home to the family of former Warrego MP Jack Aitken has gone up for auction.
Yarronvale, about 120 kilometres west of Charleville and encompassing more than 32,000 hectares, went under the hammer today at the Charleville RSL.
Mr Aitken won Warrego at the 1969 State Election. He held the seat for Labor until the Country Party’s Neil Turner defeated him in 1974.
Prior to his family’s ownership of Yarronvale, Mr Aitken owned a newsagency in Charleville in the 1940s and 1950s. He later owned a shop at Cooladdi.
Mr Aitken, whose daughter attended today’s auction, passed away in 2016, aged 98.
