RESPECTED Bidjara elder and long-time political activist ‘Sugar’ Ray Robinson has labelled Senator Pauline Hanson as the “dumbest politician” he’s ever seen and an “idiot” after her controversial “primitive” remark and reckons Aussies “need to get their heads read” if they accept her edict on First Nations people.
Mr Robinson, chairman of Bidjara Media & Broadcasting, owner and operator of Charleville-based community radio station 4RR-FM, has unequivocally condemned the One Nation Leader, who in a right-wing political podcast, referred to indigenous Australians as “the most primitive race on Earth.”
“It sounds like a ratbag,” was how Mr Robinson, 80, described Senator Hanson in Costo’s drive show on Wednesday (September 16) just before the 6pm news.
“I’ve been in Aboriginal affairs for over 50 years and I’ve done things that Pauline Hanson will never achieve. I addressed the United Nations, the world, in Geneva in 1985 and Pauline Hanson never ever reached that stage. To make the comments that she made, shows you, how big an idiot she is.
“As a politician, she is the dumbest politician I’ve ever seen. She sounds like she’s uneducated. Now I spoke to (Maranoa MP) David Littleproud not long ago and I said, ‘this Pauline Hanson, she has gotta be the dumbest politician I’ve ever heard’ and he didn’t disagree with me.
Mr Robinson, who gave the ‘welcome to country’ at the Wings on the Warrego airshow last weekend, also had a message for his fellow Australians.
“I say to the people of Australia, anyone that takes notice of what Pauline Hanson says about indigenous people need to get their heads read because Pauline Hanson is just a dumb politician,” said the man who once served as deputy chairman of the now-defunct Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Commission.
“She sounds dumb and she is dumb and I condemn her for making that statement about the indigenous people of this country.”
Senator Hanson has since said she apologises, if she offended people with her description of First Nations people.
The One Nation Leader’s original comments resulted in a stinging rebuke from across the political divide with Federal Minister Malarndirri McCarthy, responsible for indigenous affairs, describing Senator Hanson’s remarks as “derogatory” and “completely racist” and urging her to apologise.
