BALONNE COUNCIL APPOINTS NEW TOURISM MANAGER

SOMEONE who’s behind the multi-award-winning St George regional tourism team has been promoted as Balonne Shire Council’s new tourism boss.
Tara Edwards takes the reins after playing an instrumental role in various initiatives, notably the ‘You’ll Be Hooked on St George Region’ campaign, the development of the Shire’s recently released destination marketing plan and new traveller’s guide.
Ms Edwards, who has tertiary qualifications in marketing and business administration, succeeds the respected Kim Wildman, who resigned to be closer to family.
In a statement released by Council, Balonne’s new tourism manager said she was delighted to be appointed.
“I’ve learnt so much from my time with Kim and I’m really looking forward to continuing the successes we’ve celebrated as a team over recent years,” she said.
“It is such rewarding work promoting our Shire to visitors and putting in place initiatives that showcase our region.
“Over the coming period, we will be unfolding further initiatives such as the Birds of Balonne, Cotton in the St George Region, Dark Skies Tourism and an Indigenous Trail to further boost visitors to our region.
“I’m really looking forward to playing a role in bringing new visitors to our region off the back of these initiatives.”
