PREMIER OVERLOOKS LEAHY AS ‘POSTER GIRL’ REPLACEMENT

ANN LEAHY has been overlooked as the permanent Ministerial replacement for Amanda Camm after the Member for Warrego was ridiculed last month whilst doing the job on a fill-in basis.

Ms Camm, previously labelled an LNP ‘poster girl’,  became the first frontbencher for the Crisafulli Government to fall by the wayside when she quit last Friday as the Minister for Child Safety and the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence.

Her resignation came two years out from the next State Election and after almost 12 months of rumblings and controversy and the disclosure she was in a personal relationship with Sports Minister and former NRL referee Tim Mander.

On Saturday, just 24 hours after the Member for Whitsunday and one-time Katter’s Australian Party candidate announced she was stepping aside as a Minister, Ms Camm’s replacement, former Senator Amanda Stoker, was sworn in.

At the invitation of Premier David Crisafulli, Ms Leahy looked after Ms Camm’s now previous portfolio several weeks ago as a temporary measure but it turned into a debacle.

In fact, at the time, The Courier-Mail said that Ms Leahy “struggled to answer basic questions in Parliament, unable to say how many men’s crisis line calls went unanswered.”

Ms Leahy’s performance in the House on September 16 was seized upon by the Opposition, with Leader Steven Miles pointing to cutbacks by the Government.

“The same LNP who cut $40 million from DFV prevention and housing support for women and children fleeing violence,” the former Premier said on social media.

Ms Leahy’s role as the Minister for Local Government and Water and Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers is not impacted by the new Ministerial arrangements.
