CHARLEVILLE is preparing for a spectacular fusion of art, conservation and aviation at next month’s Wings on the Warrego airshow.
As part of the festivities on Saturday, September 12, there will be an unveiling of the Charleville Airport’s own artist‑designed bilby sculpture.
The ceremony, on National Bilby Day, will mark the official launch of the Charleville Bilby Art Trail, which has been several years in the making.
As part of the day’s offering, there will be free entry to the Charleville Bilby Experience at the town’s visitor information centre.
The art trail is set to become one of the town’s most imaginative cultural attractions. Inspired by the bilby, the trail will feature a series of artist‑designed sculptures placed throughout Charleville with each sculpture telling its own story, reflecting the region’s heritage, creativity and love for nature.
Visitors will be encouraged to wander through town like treasure hunters, discovering each bilby sculpture and experiencing Charleville as an open‑air gallery.
Charleville Cultural Centre’s Carmel Williams, who has been a strong advocate of the bilby art trail, says everyone involved deserves a pat on the back.
“The Charleville Cultural Centre Committee and the Bilby Committee extend their heartfelt thanks to the incredible artists who brought them to life,” she says.
“Your beautiful artwork has helped make this project a lasting celebration of our community, culture and the iconic bilby.
“Thank you for sharing your artistic vision and leaving such a wonderful legacy for Charleville to enjoy for years to come.”
