CHARLEVILLE residents have been given barely 24 hours’ notice of community consultation in relation to the next stage of the Aurora Estate.
Murweh Shire Council issued a note to media late today, with an email landing in 4RR-FM’s inbox at 4.35pm, just before the close of business, informing us that a community consultative session would be held tomorrow at the Council Chambers in Alfred Street, Charleville tomorrow (Wednesday) from 6pm.
“This presentation will cover an overview of the construction, potential impacts that could be experienced, development timing etc and will provide an opportunity for the community to ask any questions regarding the construction and development of the Aurora Estate Stage 2,” the email said.
The short notice follows a similar outcome for Augathella residents who received an ‘official invitation’ via a post on Council’s Facebook page to attend a civic reception for the Governor last week at Augathella, just hours before Her Excellency’s visit as part of a ‘farewell tour’ before she finishes her five-year term.
Stage 2 of the Aurora Estate is widely seen as a vital economic catalyst for Charleville, with Council announcing on September 3 that the tender had gone to Brisbane’s Durack Civil. A small function, featuring Mayor ‘Zoro’ Radnedge and other key figures, was held on-site but 4RR-FM was not invited.
Aurora is a Council-delivered residential subdivision comprising 65 lots with an average size of approximately 1,000m², developed to address the shortage of residential land in Charleville outside of the known flood impact area and to support the attraction and retention of skilled workers and their families.
Cr Radnedge has previously made it clear that he thinks the construction of the Aurora Estate Stage 2 Development would be a game changer for Charleville.
“These additional 65 flood-free residential lots will enable the building of new houses for the people in our community desperately needing housing and those people providing essential medical, teaching, emergency and social services in our community,” the Mayor said at the time of the tender announcement.
The project has been supported by both the State and Federal Governments.
