QUEENSLAND Rail is refusing to say when the iconic Westlander will return to service – much to the frustration of locals in the South-West.
The passenger train, linking our region with Brisbane since the 1950s, has not been sighted since last month when it was involved in a collision with a vehicle on the Darling Downs.
At the time of the accident, westbound passengers were transferred to a bus for the continuation of their journey but since then, no replacement buses have been used.
Travel agents have been quizzed about the situation but say their only information is via QR, which at the time of writing, was unable to specify when the Westlander would return.
Speculation about the future of the Westlander comes as the Federal Government cops flak for axing any further funding for the multi-billion Inland Rail project.
