MAYOR TELLS MP TO “SMARTEN UP” AFTER WIPEOUT

MARANOA MP David Littlerpoud has been told to “smarten up” and “get his act together” after a catastrophic by-election result for the Coalition.

In the NSW electorate of Farrer, based on the border city of Albury and stretching west to the South Australian border, the combined Nationals and Liberals vote plunged to just 20 per cent.

On the back of those numbers, One Nation’s David Farley was celebrating on Saturday night and in the aftermath, there is a dire warning for the Coalition including here in the South West.

“I didn’t think that One Nation would win by so much,” says Bulloo Shire Council Mayor John ‘Tractor’ Ferguson, who joins Costo in the drive show today on 4RR-FM.

“The Coalition and the Labor Party need to start spending money in the bush. Othwerwise, they’re going to get rolled in Maranoa as well.”

The straight-shooting Cr Ferguson, one of the State’s most respected figures in local government, says the result in Farrer should put Mr Littleproud on notice.

“I will say David (Littleproud) has represented us well but I think he needs to smarten up and get his act together and we need to get some cash out of this area,” he says.

“We need some big projects to get these little towns moving again, otherwise they’re all going to die. I think Pauline (Hanson) is saying things that people want to hear, so that’s why they’re going for her.”

Cr Ferguson also expressed his surprise upon learning that Mr Littleproud, Leader of the Nationals until his shock resignation two months ago, has reportedly listed his $1.6 million country estate near Warwick for sale, plus a swanky Gold Coast apartment, with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean.

“I didn’t know that…news to me. Maybe he’s going to move on. I’m not too sure,” says Thargomindah’s best-known resident and no stranger to speaking his mind.

“I seen him (Mr Littleproud) in St George last week. We were there for a South West ROC meeting and a roundtable with insurance. He never mentioned anything about it.”
