WINDORAH’s Peter ‘Punk’ Geiger has reigned supreme at the Charleville Gymkhana which returned last Saturday after a seven-year hiatus.
Riding his trusty Yamaha YZ450, Geiger blasted around the Charleville Polocrosse Grounds to take out the horse versus bike event.
He also cleaned up in the men’s barrel event, clocking 17.35, 25 seconds quicker than runner-up Blake Thompson.
In the prestigious Ellen Pugsley Memorial, for open flag competitors, Cunnamulla’s Corrissa Jackson came away with the silverware.
Casey Liston, president of Charleville Sport and Recreation, which runs the gymkahna, says the weekend was hugely successful.
More than 50 horses were on show, plus almost 170 bikes with some of them coming from hundreds of kilometres away.
“Massive thanks to the committee and volunteers they have worked tirelessly to ensure it ran smoothly,” says Liston, who was on 4RR-FM yesterday.
“It’s not possible to hold an event without amazing sponsors so thanks to them too. It’ll definitely be a yearly event.”
The first-ever Murweh Championship will be decided at Cooladdi next month.
