LEGENDARY hoop ‘Miracle’ Malcolm Johnston will be the special guest for tomorrow’s Longreach Cup meeting.
According to local racing officials, Johnston’s visit has tongues wagging as excitement builds in the Central West for the big day at Longreach.
“We’re expecting to hear plenty of great stories from the great man,” says Longreach Jockey Club president Andrew Watts, who’s also well known in the bush as the voice of racing in Western Queensland, calling at meetings far and wide including Betoota and Bedourie at the Simpson Desert Racing Carnival.
At the peak of his powers, Johnston once rode 16 Group 1 winners in a season, a record that stood for 46 years.
The Hall of Fame jockey is also remembered for his famous and highly successful partnership with iconic galloper Kingston Town.
