COMMUNITY leaders and veterans groups have praised the public’s response to Anzac Day services across the South West.
In Charleville, hundreds turned out for the Anzac Day parade before the main service, lasting more than 90 minutes, in Town Hall Park.
Elsewhere, in Cunnamulla, visitors joined locals in saluting retired soldiers from the 49th Battalion who were special guests for this year’s commemorations.
“They were very well received by the public,” reports Cunnamulla RSL Sub-Branch RSL stalwart Bruce Allardice, who was heard on-air last Wednesday, speaking about the town’s preparations for Anzac Day, which this year marked the 111th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings.
The Cunnamulla service was followed by the traditional Anzac Day race meeting, hosted by the Cunnamulla and District Diggers Race Club.
