THE Mitchell Highway between Charleville and Cunnamulla has been closed after an accident this morning involving a truck carrying nitrogen gas.
We understand the accident, north of Wyandra, means the highway will be closed until tomorrow (Friday) as emergency services await the arrival of specialist recovery teams.
We’re also led to believe the driver of the truck was not injured in the single-vehicle accident, which resulted in one of the truck’s two trailers rolling over.
Last we checked, from Cunnamulla, northbound traffic can reach Wyandra but that’s it – conversely, southbound traffic will encounter barricades just outside Charleville.
The crash, which happened around 11.30am, led to the establishment of an ‘exclusion zone’, with the support of volunteers from the State Emergency Service.
