CHARLEVILLE’s Jack Radnedge has narrowly missed out on a Rugby League premiership in the Central West.
Playing for the Longreach Ilfracombe Tigers, Radnedge was on the wrong side of the ledger in Saturday night’s Grand Final at Longreach.
Defending premiers Barcaldine beat the Tigers 14-12 in a gripping affair, as called by 4RR-FM’s newsreader and afternoons presenter Jason Costigan.
The Tigers, who qualified first for the season finale, had the chance to send the game into extra time but missed a penalty goal seconds before the final whistle.
Radnedge had his own ‘fan club’ in the 1000-strong crowd, with father and Murweh Mayor Zoro Radnedge leading a small contingent from Charleville.
Joining ‘Costo’ in commentary was Central West representative coach Gavin Groves, who coached the Tigers to the grand final at Barcaldine last season.
It was Costo’s second Central West premiership decider after his efforts behind the microphone last year with UK-based RugbyLeague.com.
Costo is a seasoned performer as a commentator, having called Rugby League in 13 countries including England, New Zealand, Fiji, South Africa and Italy.
He will be back in the Central West next month as master of ceremonies for the inaugural Matt Scott Medal presentation dinner.
